Board of Visitors member Laura L. Flippin was charged with public intoxication Friday.

Flippin, who was in town attending the fall BOV meetings, was cited on Stadium Drive at 12:45 a.m. and charged with a Class 4 misdemeanor. She spent more than 12 hours at the Virginia Peninsula Regional jail.

Police were called to the 700 block of Scotland Street for a woman who had fallen, and found Flippin unsteady and bleeding.

She is scheduled to appear in General District Court Oct. 17. State Senator Tommy Norment will serve as her lawyer.
