Sociology Department launches new film series
The sociology department will be screening films, with the theme of this semester’s series centering on how outsiders respond to hostility from natives.
The series, entitled “Unwelcome, But Undaunted,” began last week with the viewing of “The Interrupters,” a look at the work of counselors to mentor at-risk youth in Chicago. The movie “District 9,” involving exploited aliens in South Africa, will be screened in Morton 237 at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The series will conclude with “Small Town Gay Bar,” a documentary concerning the LGBTQ community in the Deep South, next Wednesday at the same time and place.
