Monday, May 4, the College of William and Mary announced the proposed changes to the Student Handbook for the 2026-27 academic year. These proposed changes came from Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and Public Safety Ginger Ambler ’88 Ph.D. ’06. All changes are subject to student comment.
The scope of the code was altered to include off-campus conduct that adversely impacts the College and the pursuit of its objectives. This includes College-sponsored study abroad programs.
Students who receive sanctions from the College that lead to a suspension or dismissal but enter an appeal period can now continue participating in both non-academic and academic on-campus activities.
Regarding student organizations violating the code, Student Accountability & Restorative Practices will treat the president or chair of the group as the official representative. One other individual may accompany the official representative to SARP meetings.
The organization can appeal the sanctions within five business days. If the sanctions involve suspension or termination, the group will be directed to a panel composed of one administrator, one faculty member and one student. In outcomes involving probation or warning, the student representative should send a written appeal to Ambler for review.
