Zimmeck drafted by Washington Freedom

Senior forward Claire Zimmeck was taken by the Washington Freedom with the 63rd overall pick in the inaugural Women’s Professional Soccer league draft this afternoon. Zimmeck’s selection was the final choice of the 9th round of the 10 round draft.

The Washington Freedom will play their home matches in D.C.’s RFK Stadium when the fledgling league launches this spring, opening the season with an inaugural match against the Los Angeles Sol on March 29th.

In Washington, Zimmeck will play alongside US National team standouts Abby Wambach and Cat Whitehill as well as legendary goalkeeper Briana Scurry, whom the Freedom selected with their 5th round pick in today’s draft.
