The Flat Hat caught up with last year’s third team All-CAA selection senior Carmen Pop to discuss her avid following of several other College varsity sports and what she misses about her native Netherlands.
Favorite soda:
Diet Coke. I guess that’s kind of lame. I like Red Bull a lot too, but it is not that healthy, so I can’t have it during the season of course.
Fan of any sports on campus:
Yes! I love going to volleyball games. My roommate [senior Bryana Carey] is on the team and she is really cool. She’s from California. I like basketball and soccer too. And of course I went to the U.Va. [football] game. It was great.
Coolest away venue:
I have played a lot of places, but I will keep it recent. Stanford’s stadium [Taube Tennis Center] was really cool. They hold WTA [Women’s Tennis Association] events there.
Favorite building on campus:
Miller Hall. It is amazing. It is just fantastic. I cannot say enough about it.
Best thing about The Netherlands:
I really miss European food, especially my mother’s home-cooking. She is Romanian, so we have a lot of traditional Romanian dishes. I also really like riding my bike into the city [Rotterdam]. Some of the roads are hundreds of years old. Some roads around here are like three years old. That’s no big deal.
