Not surprisingly, That Flat Hat was not the only news source covering Sunday night’s affair between William and Mary and Northeastern. After the 47-45 victory, here is a taste of what other observers had to offer.
Andy Katz: ESPN
Sports journalist and basketball specialist for ESPN, Andy Katz, had the following two tweets after the Tribe pulled of the late victory against Northeastern.
“Tribe trying to get to the Dance for the first time. Remember Tribe beat MD, Richmond and Wake earlier this season.”
“Wow. NU has six chances to tie or beat William & Mary in CAA semis and can’t put it in the bucket. Tribe to final vs. ODU.”
Michael Vega: Boston Globe
Vega, producing a slightly biased Northeastern piece, stressed the intricacies of the final possession, and all seven missed shots.
He chronicled Sumner’s controversial charge call late in the game that put the Tribe up 39-37. Despite the call, the basket counted. Vega includes a quote from Janning, who said the call was “… a bit ridiculous.” Janning went on to commend Marcus Kitts’ late tip-in.

Paul Woody: Richmond Times-Dispatch
Woody did a good job displaying how, as he put it, “A bit of talent combined with an enormous amount of effort can lead to success.” He stressed how David Schneider and Sean McCurdy have both struggled at points this tournament, but the younger guys have stepped up to seize the opportunity.
The article points out how the Tribe’s premier players, mainly Schneider, have established a short memory, stick to their game plan and are not afraid to shoot the basketball.
Woody ends by pointing out that despite ODU being favored to win on paper, it might just not matter.

Hank Kurz Jr.: Associated Press
As also, the story was short and to the point. The Tribe blew a 14-point lead, Schneider made a three late to save the day, Tribe is set to face Old Dominion for its first NCAA tourney appearance ever.
The Washington Post currently has this same clip posted on its online version.

They ran the same piece that Sports Editor Matt Poms wrote for The Flat Hat.
