The highly venomous Egyptian cobra that escaped from its enclosure in the Bronx Zoo this past weekend is still on the loose, according to sources at the zoo. The 20-inch cobra, whose venom can cause acute respiratory failure, is “probably” still somewhere in The World of Reptiles exhibit. Director Jim Breheny said that “when the snake gets hungry or thirsty, it will start to move around the building. Once that happens, it will be our best opportunity to recover it.”
