A Protest in Photos: Williamsburg’s Black Lives Matter Rally

Thursday, June 4, members of the Williamsburg community gathered at Thomas Nelson Community College to protest the May 25 death of George Floyd and police brutality against black Americans. After gathering at around 5:30 p.m., protesters marched from Thomas Nelson to a spot on Richmond Road approximately half a mile away. Demonstrators then lay down on the asphalt, mimicking the position in which Floyd was handcuffed and forcibly restrained before his death.

The protest, which was publicized on social media through the ‘Williamsburg Action’ advocacy group, followed similar events that have been held in Williamsburg and James City County since Memorial Day.
