Tuesday, April 27, the College of William and Mary’s Student Assembly introduced two new bills: the HPV Vaccine Promotion Act and the Divest from Fossil Fuels Revival Act.

Sen. Mia Tilman ’24 introduced the HPV Vaccine Promotion Act, which seeks to promote HPV vaccine awareness to new students during orientation in the fall. The act would allocate $350 from SA Reserves to fund the purchase of 500 stickers and 500 buttons that read “Ask me about the HPV vaccine.” These stickers and buttons will be worn during orientation by Orientation Aides, Haven volunteers, Health Outreach Peer Educators and Wellness Ambassadors, as well as staff at the Wellness Center and the Student Health Center.

Class of 2021 President Aria Austin ’21 introduced the Divest from Fossil Fuels Bill, which serves as a follow-up to the earlier Divest from Fossil Fuels Revival Resolution introduced in March. The bill adds two clauses to the resolution, one asking the Investments Subcommittee of the Board of Visitors to create a plan to withdraw investments within the next five years, and the other proposing reinvestment into companies that support BIPOC communities and climate-conscious organizations.
