Christina Romer ’81 resigned her post as chair of the president’s board of economic advisers Thursday. Romer said she is stepping down to return to California so her 14 year-old son can attend all four years of high school in the same area.
“We just decided that it was by far the best thing for the family,” Romer said to the Associated Press.
Her resignation will take affect September 3, after which Romer will return to teaching economics at the University of California-Berkley.
Romer delivered the commencement address for the graduating class of 2010 in May.
