Giving to The Flat Hat

    *The Flat Hat Fund*

This year marks the 100th year of engaging, thorough and timely coverage from The Flat Hat. In honor of this centennial, the paper has established The Flat Hat Fund.

With no journalism program at the College of William and Mary, the Flat Hat Fund seeks to provide all students of the College with the best possible resources to enter the field. Whether you were on staff or off, if The Flat Hat touched your life in any way — whether through the portfolio or leadership skills it helped you develop, or by keeping you up to date on the goings on of the College community during your time on campus and beyond — we ask you to donate to the Fund.

Your contribution to the Flat Hat Fund will help provide students interested in journalism with speakers, seminars and programming, stipends for unpaid internships and more.

    *Centennial Banquet*

_Note: Space for the banquet is currently filled, however there is availability to attend the reception, for which The Flat Hat requests a $25 ticket charge._

Former staff members are cordially invited back to join the current staff in a celebratory banquet and reception over Homecoming Weekend. The schedule of events is detailed below.

    The Wren Building
    Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010

5:00 p.m. in the Great Hall — Centennial banquet featuring speakers Taylor Reveley, President of the College of William and Mary, and Tom Shroder, award-winning journalist and former editor of The Washington Post Magazine

In 1912, upon completion of its first year of publication, The Flat Hat donated a sundial to the College, the original which is now housed in the College’s Special Collections, and a replica of which can be found to this day outside Earl Gregg Swem Library. To echo this gesture from the paper’s long history, the banquet will also feature the announcement of The Flat Hat’s centennial gift to the College.

7:30 p.m. in the Wren Portico — Reception for speakers, guests, current staff members and former staffers.

Following the banquet, please join us for drinks and light refreshments.
