Virginia to Discontinue Paper Checks for Tax Refunds

The Daily Press reported that Virginia’s Department of Taxation will no longer send tax refunds in the mail as paper checks. Taxpayers will have the option either to have their state tax refunds deposited directly into their bank accounts or to receive the total on a prepaid debit card. This policy change came about after the General Assembly voted to cut funding for paper refund checks last year. The switch is expected to save Virginia about $200,000 in print and postage costs.
