News: Former Tribe star Marcus Thornton signs 10-day contract with Cavaliers

Wednesday night, former William and Mary standout Marcus Thornton ‘15 signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association. This comes just after Thornton was selected to play for Team USA in FIBA World Cup qualifying.

Thornton, who was named 2014-15 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, has had a strong year with the Canton Charge of the G-League, the developmental association of the NBA. The 6-foot-4 guard has averaged 18.8 points with the team while being named a G-League All-Star.

Thornton is the all-time leading scorer in Tribe history, averaging 17.1 over his career at the College. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 2015 NBA Draft but never played for the team. He instead played a season in Australia before suiting up for the Celtics’ G-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. He would play a year in Italy before returning to the States after signing a contract with the Charge.
