Gov. Bob McDonnell Says International Tourism In Virginia Increased In 2011

Gov. Bob McDonnell released a statement Sep. 19 that said overseas visitors spent a record $390 million in the state in 2011, a figure up 21 percent from 2010, according to The Washington Post. According to the statement, he said tourists from Canada spent the most, spending more than $148 million in 2011. Revenue from domestic tourists topped $20 million, an increase of 8 percent from 2010. The figures come from The United States Department of Commerce, Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, and the Survey of International Air Travelers and Statistics Canada.
