Tuesday, Sept. 1, College of William and Mary Chief Business Officer Sean Hughes emailed the campus community about recent changes to dining operations. His message followed community members expressing frustrations with the delayed opening of the West Woods Dining Hall and the transition of the Food Hall at Sadler into a food retail hub. Hughes acknowledged these sentiments.
“The first two weeks of dining this semester did not meet the standard you should expect at William & Mary,” Hughes wrote. “I am sorry for that, and I appreciate the patience and the direct feedback so many of you have shared.”
Hughes said the Marketplace at Campus Center will expand from serving all-you-care-to-eat lunch on weekdays to offering daily breakfast, lunch and dinner beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Morning Musings, a new grab-and-go breakfast spot, will open Thursday, Sept. 3 in the Sadler Center. Morning Musings will accept meal swipes and operate Monday through Friday from 7-11 a.m.
Hughes announced other changes to meal plans. Students with the All Access plan will receive five weekly Gold Passes — which let students use meal swipes for retail vendors — for the Sadler food hall, increased from two. Students with the Block 100 and Block 125 plans will receive two weekly Gold Pass swipes, increased from one.
Every meal plan holder will receive an additional 100 Dining Dollars on top of the 100 Dining Dollars already transferred to students after the Aug. 8 West Woods Dining Hall delay announcement. He said the College is working to increase operating hours and portion sizes.
Hughes responded to student requests that Sadler be reverted to an all-you-care-to-eat dining hall. Such a change would not be feasible during this academic year, he said.
Hughes also said the College expects the West Woods dining hall to open by the start of the spring semester.
